What is the extent of Freedom Mobile's coverage in Canada?
Based on where you live, it is important to note that Freedom’s network has two components. According to Freedom’s website, its 4G LTE network is most prominent in major population centres in B.C., Alberta and Ontario, though its coverage may also extend to outlying areas and other provinces.
In areas outside of its primary service area, Freedom Mobile SIM cards will connect to partner networks. This includes the Big 3 wireless networks. When coverage is variable, the phone will display either “Freedom” or “Nationwide” to confirm the connection.
Anything outside of the Freedom coverage zones is considered Nationwide. This may be subject to additional pay-per-use costs, unless part of it is covered in your monthly plan. Freedom WiFi networks are free to join and can be found in 450,000 locations across Western Canada. This includes open access in Toronto’s TTC Subway and Vancouver’s SkyTrain public transit systems.
